We’ve out-hit Tennessee in all 4 games this year and lost...

Lost 1-3
3/27/21
LSU 17 hits to UT 10 hits
Lost 8-9
3/28/21
LSU 9 hits to UT 6 hits
Lost 2-3
6/12/21
LSU 8 hits to UT 6 hits
Lost 2-4
Obviously we need to convert more hits into runs, Tennessee has just been doing a better job of getting more run support. Too many holes in our lineup, leaving too many runners on base. CPM knew this and hence his tinkering all season with the batting order, he just guessed wrong more than usual. Errors (at least recorded ones) haven’t really been a factor in the series, LSU had 1 in our 1st game and UT recorded 1 last night. Tennessee is good but they are absolutely beatable. Have a feeling we’re playing Monday,

Tennessee has relied on free passes to score runs, while LSU, as you said, simply isn't doing a good job of getting runners in. It's not like they haven't gotten hits. The little things have gotten us beaten in all four games.

This is what separates good teams from average/bad ones. VOLS are amongst the nation's leaders in both walks drawn, and fewest walks given up. VOLS have gotten 16 more baserunners from walks in the 4 games, and that more than makes up for the lack of hits.

You also don't draw walks unless the other team fails to throw strikes. LSU is among the worst in the nation in walking hitters, aside from Labas and Marceaux. If those guys don't get deep into games, we're usually in deep trouble.
I stated that the Vols have relied on walks to score in my previous post. You can do that when you're facing teams that struggle with command. LSU needs to make Tennessee put the ball in play and make better contact. if they do, and the Vols make them pay, so be it. But you can't win by giving away free runs.
Edit- Hillard is a strike thrower, too, but in the first series, Jaden Hill was still in the rotation, and he was definitely not a strike thrower.

A walk is as good as a single with the base path empty. Better than a 1 or 2 pitch single. add at least 4 pitches to the pitch count and often will frustrate a pitcher if it continues. Underrated part of a hitters repertoire.

Beloso has been completely fooled at the plate. It’s like he has no approach whatsoever.
Thompson can’t do anything without hesitation.
Obviously understand Milazzo from a catching perspective, but he is pure garbage at the plate. Quite literally an automatic out.

If doughty just throws that ball to first it stays 2-2 and we may still be playing. Bonehead play and lack of awareness
