While MSU has a longer history of baseball success, let's not act like Ole Miss is "resource deprived" in 2021. Nationwide VERY few schools in the country give much of a shite about college baseball. Ole Miss is ABSOULTELY one of those schools that does. As such, they have been willing to commit significant resources (relative to college baseball as a whole) to the program. Hell, Ole Miss in the top 4 of attendance every year.

This is absolutely true. How much credit should Bianco get for that? Much of it if not most of it.

As I have said previously, I would not be displeased by Bianco as the new coach but I am not certain he would be the best choice. I just get tired of folks acting like he is successful because of Ole miss as opposed to Ole miss being successful because of Bianco.

This isn't football. The resource gap between OM baseball and LSU baseball is pretty small. Which is why it makes little sense to say "well, look at what he's done at poor Ole Miss. Imagine what he could do at LSU?!" That is a reasonable argument in football. Not baseball.

I think it is probably reasonable to say the he has been very close to several trips to the CWS. That small difference could mean a trip vs not a trip. Or not, we can only speculate.

There are no financial inequities keeping Ole Miss from being every bit as good year to year as any of the other top SEC teams. The reality is that while they have been good under Bianco, they haven't been great. "Why" is probably multi-factored. But I think it is ridiculous to say it is Ole Miss that is holding Bianco back. And I think it is equally ridiculous to think that just because he's at LSU he would be able to accomplish things he hasn't in 20 years at Ole Miss.

He has been at Ole miss for 20 years but what you are saying, in terms of the baseball program, has not been true for 20 years. He has been competitive at a school that really wasn't prior to his arrival.

I do think he could do as well as Paul has done and possibly better. I don't think it is ridiculous to think he could do things at LSU that he hasn't at Ole Miss, I do think it is unrealistic to expect that to happen immediately though, with any coach really. it can, but it rarely does.

But to act like he is a "superstar" just being held back by little Ole Miss is dumb.

I do think we totally agree on this and I hope what I posted did not imply that. I was simply trying to say that Ole Miss benefitted from Bianco more than Bianco benefitted from Ole Miss when his career there is looked at as a whole.

For whatever reason, I personally like Vitello but can't really give you great reasons for that. Good old irrational sports mentality kicking in on that one I think

This has been said a lot, but - objectively speaking - Ole Miss's results under Bianco have been subpar relative to Ole Miss's historical average. Here are the numbers:

The college world series started in 1947. Bianco started at Ole Miss in 2001. Ole Miss went to 4 CWS in the 54 years prior to Bianco and 1 in Bianco's 21 seasons. So Bianco's 1 in 21 falls short of their previous average of 1 in 13.5 years.

It is even worse when you look at conference championships. In those same 54 years prior to Bianco, Ole Miss won 6 SEC championship...equal to one championship every 9 years. Bianco has won 1 (1 in 21 years).

Admittedly, he has run a good program and been consistent, but it's not like he has historically overperformed Ole Miss's average.
