This is so dumb and is the final nail in the coffin for college football.

The playoffs were the start of it and now it’s done.

You'll still watch.

I love the expansion to 12 but with the caveat being the first round and quarterfinals are home games for the higher ranked team.

Totally the right way to do it for many reasons

All of the games count except in your example the McNeese game wouldn't count. Nor would any of the other non-conference games.

so.....you really think that, if a major loses to mcneese in week one, they will get an at large bid at the end of the season if they fail to win their respective conference?

The top four seeds will get byes

Muh byes is the most disingenuous argument...possibly in sports history

byes are worth NOTHING compared to a playoff birth, and to pretend they are in the same stratosphere is effectively lying b/c it's so devoid of logic you have to be intentionally diffusing reality to pretend this is a point

The Playoff era

Right now what we have is an invitational. It's not a real playoff. Damn near everyone who wanted a playoff said from the get go that 4 was not going to work.

12 w/top 6 conference winners isn't perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than the 4 team invitational and absolutely better than the BCS/Bowl Alliance/pre Alliance bowl system.

We still will have plenty of teams in it that wouldn't be in it orginally and it gives G5 teams a chance.
I would prefer a "play in game" between the 2 top ranked G5 teams who bypass their Conference Championships. (This past season would have been C. Carolina v Cincinnati). Winner moves on to the playoffs.

Many top recruits may consider a G5 power since their chances are better than getting by Bama / LSU/Florida/ Georgia in the SEC. I think a G5 play in game helps create more college Football parity.

Having 12 is a vast improvement, both for the sport as a whole, and it’s National appeal

Based on what evidence? The FCS has a 24-team playoff and North Dakota State has dominated that division of college football for the better part of a decade. Since 2011, they've failed to win the national championship twice.

I never said that did I?

I used his example and said that if you lose to McNeese and then win your conference and get an AQ spot, the game against McNeese "didn't count" even though this system supposedly means that "EVERY game now counts".

If you lose to McNeese your season should be over. Hurts peoples feelings and I guess people here admit that they don't care about the games once the National Title is out of reach but that's the way it should be.

This is a horrible argument.

The regular season is not a playoff and it never has been. It's a lie people told themselves for some reason.

The Egg Bowl has never meant anything in terms of the NC. That's not what made it special.

The hate is what makes it special.

Why people WANT to keep the worst way to crown a championship in sports is beyond me.

You think losing to McNeese should be forgiven and that will somehow make the season better?

Yes.

The majority of sports fans only identify with their specific team. the longer they have a legit chance to play in the post season and have even just a “any given Saturday” chance for a championship it would make the season better for them.

What happens when they get eliminated from the playoff? Those fans won't be interested anymore, so maybe double elimination?

Or we just eliminate teams throughout the season and as the poster above mentioned there's still plenty to play for even without championship implications (i.e. The Egg Bowl) So there wouldn't be a need to trick people into continuing to watch.
