They addressed this with the kids. Since their body’s are growing they require a massive amount of food/nutrients than the adults. They said the adults don’t really grow and therefore do not need nearly as much food as younger people.
The baby died because over the course of like the 10 secs it was alive like two weeks passed in aging and it hadn’t been fed or nursed so it died of negligence.
