I have always believed this is his biggest shortcoming. Maineri has always seemed to lack that ‘gut instinct’ on when to pull a pitcher or leave him in. Gut instinct on starting lineups, players potential or lack thereof. Skip seemed to take ‘gut feel’ to the next level which made Maineri’s shortcoming even more glaring. Maineri tried to compensate with an overdose of stats that created an overthinking of most decisions.
