I can’t recommend Breckenridge more for this trip. Have been there many times with our kids and all the other places mentioned as well. They are all beautiful, but Breck is set up perfectly. So much to do.
Walk to town and eat and drink daily. Rent bikes and ride path to Frisco, hiking trails, peak 8 mountain park, tour the mine, drive up to continental divide, horseback rides, raft in Buena Vista.

Ski resorts are overlooked for summer vacations but truly are in this day great summer vacation spots. Most of not all now have summer activities and many of them tons of summer activities. You aren’t stuck to them, but they have a ton of stuff to do just within walking distance and can drive from there. Plus most have the vacation rentals already there within walking distance.

And honestly Breck has some pretty awesome stuff in the summer.

Kids are 7 & 10. We don't want to move every day, but are open to splitting time between 2 places. Maybe 3-4 days at one place and 3-4 at another.
Then Durango may be an option.

Made a 14 day road trip last summer with 8-3 year old boys. Everywhere we went was awesome. Glennwood Springs was my boys favorite. 7 days might be too long but amusement park and hot springs was a change of pace for boys. Estes Park was a good one too. RMNP to hike and plenty of fishing. Plus another small amusement park with big slide and other crap to keep them entertained.

Also interested in the fishing side. My son loves to fish. Where did you fish? Any recommendations?
