Apparently according to hoop dirt.con there is a recent opening for a full time basketball coach position. The posting is for a Special Assistant to the Head Coach which was previously filled by Assistant Coach Nickleberry. For those laughing at the Tre Mitchell ‘s family member looking for a job in the basketball office there now appears some real smoke to the fire.

I look for Tre Mitchell to commit relatively soon. The Gangster has loaded the cards at the table once again.

That is a support staff position, not a coaching position. Teams are allowed 1 head coach and 3 assistant coaches.

They can pretty much have infinite support staff positions. Vanderbilt has more than 10. LINK

Unless it’s different for transfers, the rule is family members have to be brought on in one of the 4 coaching positions, right?

Mitchell aside, Wade needs to be looking to add some more support/analysts type positions. Can only help for film breakdown and scouting. But more importantly, NCAA passed a new rule for this summer allowing for teams to have non full time coaches work directly with players during the summer workout periods. It was done b/c coaches complained that they need to spend the bulk of this summer recruiting to play catch-up from Covid, which means there would be no one left on campus to do player workouts and skill practices.

This would be a great opportunity to bring in a couple technically sound coaches and developers not interested in being a FT coach b/c of recruiting and let one work with the guards and the other work with the front court guys.
