Steve Garvey
10x All-Star
World Series Champion (went to the World Series 4X as one of the main cogs that got them there).
NL MVP
2X NLCS MVP
4X Gold Glove
2X All-Star Game MVP
Roberto Clemente Award winner
He hit .356 in 90 NLCS at-bats, .319 in 113 World Series at-bats and .393 in 28 All-Star Game at-bats. His postseason OPS was .910.
He held Major League records among first basemen for 159 consecutive errorless games in a season and 193 consecutive errorless games in a career.
He led NL first basemen in putouts six times.
NL record for consecutive games played
After Lou Gerigh but before Cal Ripen Jr.
Can't sniff the HOF.

After reading his wiki bio the SI cover should read:
Back in LA
Steve Garvey
Fathers A Record
1,118th Child

Steve Garvey was actually a vastly overrated player during his playing career whose career had became more appropriately rated as we have grown to know more about how to properly evaluate players over the years. Garvey was a great hitter for average but didn’t walk at all or hit for much power. Cecil Cooper was just as good as Garvey if not better than him yet received a fraction of the attention and acclaim that Garvey got because he played for the small market Milwaukee Brewers instead of a team like the LA Dodgers.

Steve Garvey is not in the HOF? I didn't know that but if true that's crazy, he was an excellent player and the HOF should be ashamed

He also played football at Michigan State. Just doesn't have the numbers to get voted in by the writers. I think the old-timers committee or what they call it now will eventually put him in.
