Good bike for your need.

All good brands that will offer similar priced trail bikes. Also check out Marin, Co-op (an REI brand), Giant, Fuji. You might have better luck finding these bikes used and will get a better components if you don't mind gently used.

I think they're useful and will always say yes to that question. They come equipped with most new hardtail trail bikes anyhow.
