For some reason it is on my lawn calendar; although I don't recall ever doing this.
Feb 5: Pre-em
Tax time: Fertilize
Late May/Early June: Pre-em???
Late June: Fertilize
Late June: Fungicide
Late October: Winterize
Late October/Early Nov: Pre-em
I have a blend of Zoysia, St. Aug, and some Bermuda here and there.

I have never and will never do a pre em in the summer. Late fall and late winter and then early spring for me.

I think some do, and I did so for the first time May 1 applying Specticle Flo pre-emergent b/c I’ve had a serious issue with Doveweed in summer, a later germinating summer annual, that Specticle is supposed to be good at controlling (I hope so) - I should know how well it worked in the next 2 or 3 weeks.
But as a general rule a summer pre-emergent shouldn’t be required, a heathy thick fast growing lawn shouldn’t require it. Summer pre-emergents are not recommended by LSU AgCenter weed control specialists except under “unusual” conditions - in my case it was recommended to get on top the Doveweed issue.

Ok. I don't have some crazy problem. I can spot treat with Celsius in the summer. Thanks, y'all !

I do a split application in the spring... 1/4 the yearly rate when soil temps reach 55 deg, then another 1/4 when it reaches 70 deg.
I do a single 1/2 yearly rate application in the fall.

quote:Same here. All the publications advise to do a round in late spring, but here's the issue with that. If you lay down sod and/or overseed, the pre em actually works against that preventing new growth. And it's good for about 3 months. So the best thing to do is lay it down in February, which gives you Feb, March, Apr for the pre em to do its thing. And most of us overseed and/or lay down new sod starting in May. So that way, the pre em isn't affecting that. Learned that little tip from Doc on YouTube.

Do we? Am I missing the boat on something? Should I be tossing down Zoysia seed every spring?

I meant most of us as in that's the time to do it, not as in most of us do it.
Sorry, didn't clarify that.
