Mostly correct, the record company (Columbia) asked Jani to include a "R&R anthem song" more commercial and with a punch (similar to 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'), so he wrote the song as you describe.

Jani Lane deserved more recognition than what he became, but I guess that's another topic. He was brilliant musically. Just re-discovered "Uncle Tom's Cabin" recently. Man, what a tune and those vocals!
