He unsuccessfully tried to run for Senate in 2010. He lost the Republican primary to Marco Rubio, then left the party and ran as an independent in the general election and lost with 30% of the vote. There's not really a statewide appetite for him anymore. Unless DeSantis gets caught with a live boy or a dead girl he wins by 7-10 points next year. The only person I've heard the Dems seriously consider running before today is Nikki Fried and DeSantis would crush her.
