My 7 iron is a comfortable 165 yds. There is about 10 yards between each club.
Most on the time I try to play off the tee to get me about 135 out on most par 4s. I am very confident about hitting a smooth 9 iron from that distance and giving myself a good putt at birdie.
I don't always reach it, but my goal every round is to make 3 birdies. 3 birdies negate 3 bogeys and gives me par on 6 holes, a third of the course and then let's the chips fall where they may.
A guy that use to play the mini tours years ago named Andy Dillard told me that and I have always remembered it.
