I’m a NASCAR fan. School me on Indy.
He didn’t qualify or another reason.

JJ is only running the road/street courses. His wife is not comfortable with him running the ovals.

Only 35 tried to qualify for the race. The 500 is a shadow of it's former greatness.

No shite. used to be at least twice that many cars attempting to qualify.

Have been re-reading Smokey Yunick's book and it was so different back in the day. 70+ cars trying to make the show. Only 33 spots.

And they weren't spec chassis with spec engines.

Even into the 90's there was some variety. Not now. Haven't watched a 500 for years. I'll probably have it on today as background noise but won't be watching closely.

Amazon link

It used to be available on Kindle but isn't anymore apparently. I have both the book and Kindle.

His family also sells the books.

Today race was incredible. I basically only watch this race and the last couple if the championship is close. I’m happy for Helio and glad he took the lead on the second to last lap. So much action in today’s race. In the middle of it, two leaders both had major problems when they pitted. Awesome passing too. Much more exciting than nearly every recent F1 or nascar race.

Oh also, Helio got lucky that things didn't work out with Penske this year. Now he has a much better chance of winning.

Called it.

Not the win, but the fact that he had a better chance of winning by not driving for Penske this time around.

Looking to see if Grosjean can continue his nice run.

Listening to the F1 podcast with Jeff Gordon, and he said Rossi was the closest American ready for F1.

Not sure after seeing some of the talent this year.

Interesting how many people are going in early to change to black tires.

Praying for the best for him. I’d expect some pretty severe lower body injuries there. Thank goodness he found the tires. He was only a few feet from driving straight into the concrete barrier.

Taken away on a stretcher. Possible lower leg injuries, like Schumacher at Silverstone?

It's impossible to predict who might win now, with the early pitters, the late pitters who started on alternates, the guys who started on primaries (Dixon), and now the red flag which has certainly screwed up a lot of guys' strategies.
