In fairness, Chrysler's pickups were never THAT bad. In many years they were better than Ford (and I think they are right now too). They were always significantly more reliable than the Chrysler built vans and compact cars even in their worst years. Dodge Ram has been a major player in the 3/4 ton truck market since they've been installing Cummins diesel engines in them.
Dodge Ram was also significantly more old-school for decades than its competitors. Their 1993 model truck used technology developed in the late 1960s.
