At best, to detain a guy robbing a construction site. At worst to threaten a guy that was they assumed was robbing a construction site and kill him.

An incongruent anecdote:

I live in a historic neighborhood. Lots of low income and lots of rich people mixed together. One of my neighbors is an elderly black lady with no car. She asks me for rides fairly regularly to less savory parts of town to see her friends and family.

I happily oblige, but I carry every single time. I am fully willing to use that to protect myself, but if a situation ever comes up where I have to use it, I know there would be questions about why I armed myself and if I was out looking for a confrontation.

Whether these guys left the house to kill AA or just question/confront him is beyond any of us, but they made a stupid split second decision to bring guns in a volatile situation and are left with the consequences of their stupidity, race motivated or not.
