We had a new dude in our golf league trying to do this on his second shots in stroke play. 
He would tee off with a distance ball and then try to swap for a tour ball in the fairway. We said “Hey *Timmy* we play the ball down in this league. Hand to God he said “What’s that?”

I imagine since it was a par 3 he wanted his partner to putt with his ball.
