How many otherwise really good employees haven’t been promoted because they didn’t have a piece of paper?

Yeager was denied entry into the astronaut program because he didn’t have a degree. For context, the guy RAN the USAF test pilot school in the sixties.

The person who got passed over was made his deputy but still had a huge amount of power and pay.

Not too much more competent than he was but better at playing the game.
