Propane regulator venting gas as soon as gas is turned on

Worked fine just a few days ago but today there was a low flame and after attempting to reset the regulator gas now comes out at a high rate out of the little pin hole vent when I turn the gas on.
Is this a sign the regulator has gone bad or are there other issues that could be going wrong with my grill causing this kind of venting?
Type of regulator is a straight through L.

By reset I mean I just detached it from the propane tank which is what the grill instruction book said to do when there is a low flame. I didn't unscrew it from the actual grill.

Diaphragm busted. that is a not serviceable regulator.
Go to a local gas supply and buy an adjustable brass regulator. They are rebuild able and will last years as well as allow you to regulate low pressure up to a jet burner.
I got mine at a Coburns in LC.
They have a big black plastic handle or a brass T handle for adjusting.
