All of this is over-reach. But people with restraining orders not being able to have a gun, or having their lawfully obtained guns removed is absolute horse shite. During my first divorce, future ex-wife's attorney sent over a "first draft" of the decree, which included a restraining order.

I've never once threatened, verbally or physically anyone, especially not her. I asked my attorney "WTF? How can she do that?" His response was that, "that's boiler plate negotiating. we should just leave it there, because if we ask them to remove it, they'll want to add some new items which will hurt worse. The only impact to you would be a delay if you ever want to buy a gun." -- so I refused to even acknowledge the first draft. Fired my attorney and got a new one. (he was a pot-smoking loon with 'kama-sutra' and 'the power of pot' books on his bookshelf.

New attorney made sure no restraining order would ever show up - he was an avid hunter and understood the ramifications.
