And the slippery slope begins. A person not convicted of a crime having his rights taken away. If you're going to take rights away, the person needs to be convicted of a crime in a court first. A restraining order doesn't meet that bar. All you need for a restraining order is a Karen ex-wife.
It might not be polite to say, but I honestly think it's standard operating practice for divorce attorneys to get restraining orders on the other party. Helps get leverage with custody, etc. I remember talking to a lawyer friend in the 90's who said as much.
Going through a divorce or a breakup isn't grounds for gun-grabbing or prevention of purchase.

It’s been the law since the 1990s that people under a restraining or protective order cannot own firearms or ammunition. It’s called the Lautenberg Amendment.
