Freshman year, my closest friend's roommate was a Pike. Not sure how or why he ended up a Pike pledge. He was very normal.

None of us had seen Cartoon Network before college. This guy got addicted. He'd stay up all night watching Droopy D, then go raise the flag at the Pike house at 6AM and pass out. His first semester GPA was 0.0. Buckshot.

We had some good times while it lasted. Went to Nick's on (?) Tulane Ave. a couple of times. Dropped acid. Found out we had some friends in common, old Uptown New Orleans Italians. The guy was, well... connected.

Years later, I was wrapping up a long college career, I'm at Kinko's in the middle of the night getting my honors thesis bound. Who's working the counter but Pike Jeff- starting over from scratch, the poor, non-Pike way.

I'd grown up in the interim. Kid on the way, looking for good jobs. I'd done 4 semesters as a co-op student and was a completely different person. Pledging Pike set that kid back 5+ years.
