Every single cousin, neighbor, church member, and coworker shows up as though it's the last time they're gonna get to eat together. That's as far as I'm gonna go with it.

Any time I've done this with family/friends we have always called a few days ahead of time, made a reservation for a room or area of tables together, and let them know that we will tip well and won't raise a fuss. Just showing up with that type party is just an a-hole move.

It really does throw a wrench into the entire operation. We don't do that often, but when we do we try to make it as smooth as possible.

Agreed.

I must have a lot less patience than others or something, because I’m constantly scratching my head at the torture people put themselves through in regards to crowds. They’ll happily suggest going to the busiest places in town with a group of 7 on a peak day. I just don’t understand why you’d want to drive somewhere and wait an hour+. Make a reservation.. pick a lesser known spot.. something!

In today’s world, especially with covid, you can make a reservation using the click of a button. And it is no longer just the nicest places in town that take reservations.
