They do a really good job funneling the offensive attack into where THEY want it to go, rather than the offense dictating the possession. They recruit long, athletic bigs to run the back line of the zone as well.

If you're old enough to remember, it's similar to Tarkanian's "amoeba" defense with Stacey Augmon at UNLV in the early 90s.

The amoeba was a thing of beauty when they ran it. The best thing about the 1-1-3 was they had the foot speed to close out the skip passes.
