Looking for a week long trip. Flying into Miami, flying out of key west.
Should we split the time just between Miami and Key West, or maybe spend 2-3 nights in Miami, 2-3 Night in another island and 2-3 nights in Key West?
2 families, 10 people, June- July

Others may disagree but 2 nights in Miami is enough especially with a family. Spend the rest of your time in the keys chillin.
Key West is great.

And I love the keys, but two nights in key west is enough as well.
There are only so many times you can walk back and forth

Would y’all spend 2-3 nights in a different key and key West or 4-5 nights in only Key West?

There really isn’t that much in the other keys you can’t do in KW.
I would just chill in KW for a few days. There’s plenty to do

If you want to dive/snorkel marathon key is a favorite of mine, but I'm a little biased as Ive been going there to dive and lobster my entire life. Hit the turtle hospital for sure. Bahia Honda for beach/snorkeling time as well is top notch. I agree that 2-3 days in KW is enough.

If you're like me and enjoy some good food, Miami has it! Spend a few days in North Beach and then head to the keys. I found the keys to be boring, but then again, I like to do things other than walk back and forth from the beach an entire trip.

How is Key Largo as a possible place to stay for a few nights?

I think your division of days is just right.
Upper Keys offer things like family friendly snorkeling trips out of Pennekamp State Park, on Key Largo, where even smaller kiddos can see a real live coral reef pretty easily. LINK. Feeding the tarpon off the dock at Robbies in Islamorada is kitschy but fun. LINK. Also some interesting stops along the way for the Hurricane memorial, the key west deer habitat, the wild bird center, etc.
Key West has enough historic stuff to keep you busy, like the Hemingway House and all those multi toed cats, the Fort East Martello museum with creepy Robert the doll, the evening buskers at sunset in Mallory square (kids will love the Cat Man’s cat circus), the Mel Fisher treasure museum.....
No one goes to the Keys for the beaches, so if your kids really like the water, make sure your lodgings have a nice pool or prepare them for the lack of sand/dunes.

Lobster fishing worth it?
In late July yes, I think that's around when the Lobster season sort of starts.

just got back from bungalows in Key Largo. Fricking incredible, all inclusive, adults only resort. Other than that Key Largo was kind of a dump, honestly.

That stinks to hear. I'm thinking of taking my wife and two teens for a combo trip to Miami and Key Largo. Was thinking Key Largo because I have Marriott points and it looks like they have two nice properties there and thought the area seemed relaxing.
I've been to Key West twice so don't feel the need to go there really.

well, hey, the good news is you can stay there and just drive to other, nicer keys.
we flew into miami, stayed at trump doral so i could play golf, then headed down to key largo.

Personally I think key west kind of sucks. I would do 5 days in Miami and 2 in key west. You can do beaches in Miami and do tons of great food. You can go check out wynwood and museums.
I just think key west has such a limited amount of stuff to do

I feel like the exact opposite. Key West is awesome.
Miami is great...if you're young and single or a young couple. With a family? Eh.

I just don’t think there’s anything you can do in key west that can’t be done in Miami. If you want to relax go to the beach or a more chill area like coconut grove. If you want to do glitz and glamour walk down ocean drive
Key west to me has 36-48 hours of cool stuff to do
Again as you said it’s all opinions. I don’t love beach towns and like cities more

This thread came along at the perfect time...I'll look into Bungalows, but seeking out all options.
Researching an anniversary trip in late December...ideally, staying at the Moorings on Islamorada but they're doing renovations and can't confirm any reservations in late December. I know Key West will be a sh!tshow but may day-trip it down one day.
Are there any resort-type places along the Keys where we can enjoy beach service all day with a restaurant or two on property? (Don Cesar in St. Pete is another option at the moment.)
Any & all recs are appreciated
ETA: Holy hell Bungalows in Key Largo is expensive Christmas week

Little palm island but possibly out of your budget.

I’m staying in Playa Largo in Key Largo week after Easter. I’ll let you know how it went if you want? It’s a Marriott property.
