I have a Steelcase Leap V2. They're $900 but can be found for half that from refurbishers.

Don't believe there's a more ergonomic or customizable chair out there. Herman Miller Aeron is another good one but it's ugly

I just got a Gesture directly from Steelcase for about a grand. I moved my ~45 year old Steelcase chair to a secondary role to this one.

As far as the Gesture vs. Leap - the Gesture is probably more adjustable (particularly the arms - the lower part of the chairs are identical/almost identical) - a lot of folks comparing them side-by-side lean Leap, but they're probably too close to call.

My research pointed me to those 2 options plus:

And while the Herman Miller is made in the USA (and the Steelcase in Mexico), and I don't find the styling as off-putting as you do, I just have so much experience with Steelcase. My desk and credenza are Steelcase surplus office furniture, most of my rolling desk chairs are Steelcase from the late 1970s. I went with what I knew.
