He was way behind. It would've taken some time to close the gap with the competition and gain rapport with his teammates/coaches. I do agree that his limited opportunities probably limited his chance to close the gap quicker. Had PM given him more opportunities, he might've been able to catch up quicker...but maybe not.

CPM has demonstrated year after year that he cares more about developing high potential players in the nonconference games than he does winning. So why did he continue to frick around with Bianco this year instead of giving Hampton an opportunity to reach his potential?

People keep saying this and I just don’t get the reasoning. Behind Hellmers who started game 1 with less than a week of practice at the position? Behind Bianco who can’t hit a beach ball much less a baseball? Hampton was hitting pretty well in the early going his freshman year last year before his injury. A lot of kids missed a lot of baseball when the season stopped to fall ball. He can’t have been that far behind.
