I was shocked when I saw the name. Without saying too much, Mr. Washington is a local attorney who I have had the pleasure of working with on a client situation about 7-8 years ago. To say he was impressive is an understatement. He was a huge help for us. I haven't worked with him since then because I haven't had a situation with a client that needed his level of expertise.

If he says it happened, it happened. I also fully believe him and his wife are the type of people that would easily tip more than 20 percent for good service.

A suspension without pay is how any large organization needs to handle this, they will get their ducks in a row and fire these employees.

I know the O-T likes to talk about "bend the knee" blah blah but this is a really bad thing this server and his manager did.

Stereotypes are stereotypes because they have a great deal of truth in them.

Mr. Washington claimed he worked in the service industry in the past and he should understand that blacks, as a whole, do not tip well if at all. Blacks are especially stingy about tipping white servers.

Having said that, there are exceptions to every stereotype and, if what you are saying about Mr. Washington is true, he is THE EXCEPTION.

Of course, from a server's perspective, he/she just has to live with that and should not have added any mandatory tip to the ticket. The fact that he/she only did it to a black couple because of the all-too-true stereotype (in MOST instances) is no excuse.

Personally, I HATE when a tip is automatically added -- even when I'm with a group of more than 6. From whatever reason (probably because of my finance background), I always seem to be the person in whatever group I'm in to do the bill. When a server adds an automatic gratuity, I take that as a sign that he/she has looked at my group, sized us up, and determined that we are likely to stiff him/her. What they don't know is that I typically start at 25% and round up (on a large bill I round up to the next $5 to $10). If we get exceptional service or the staff had to stay a little later because we are having a good time, I START at 35% and round up.

However, whenever someone adds the tip, that is EXACTLY what they will get to the EXACT F*CKING PENNY. I'll then add a little note saying that they F*CKED UP because had the tip not been automatically added, they would have gotten a much larger tip.
