The city doesn't really do anything IMO to attract new businesses to the area. Also, like many towns in Louisiana, there is the good ole boy network that is always looking for it's back scratch, which turns away possible businesses.

The fact that a major interstate and a very busy railroad runs through town and Alexandria hasn't boomed from that yet should tell you something. They don't leverage that to bring in new opportunities.

The current state of affairs with the high crime rate and not enough police to ensure law and order doesn't make things attractive either. Really the only new businesses that usually open up in Alexandria are either chain restaurants or some new company from an already established local. There really is no new blood coming into town bringing in new jobs and lifting up the economy.

This all true. And also anyone saying Alexandria is the worst place to live in the state is full of shite. Is there anything special about it no nor should anyone go out of their way to live there but people talking shite need to visit the third world slums in New Orleans before ragging on Alex.
