I think it's a fair concern when you're talking about a $2,000 piece of equipment that then also requires a monthly app subscription. That's a lot of money to shell out if it eventually just turns into a piece of furniture. I understand though that these things don't lose much value on the secondary market, so that does mitigate some risk.

Our health insurance covers a certain amount each month that can be applied to a gym membership. Old gym membership was something ridiculous like $185/mo (side note: frick you, Equinox). So when the pandemic shut everything down, we just bought the bike and the monthly membership is not only covered, but the remaining balance goes back to us for the cost of the bike.
