No prior fear of heights, as I have jumped off of bridges up to 80 ft off the water in my younger days, as well as an airplane or two.
No way this bridge makes you feel fearful if you have done those things

A) It was over 35 yrs ago
B) Never said I wasn't nervous then. In regards to the bridge jump we were waterskiing on the bay below the bridge most of the day when an AF buddy of mine dared me to do it.
I told him I would if he would, so late in the afternoon after muchos cervezas we talked each other into doing it. Took forever to walk up the bridge and get to the center over the deepest part of the channel. We stepped over the side and said we go on "Three". As we started counting we realized we had both made the huge mistake of thinking the other would back out of doing it. We knew we "F'd" up when we looked at each other after "Two" and neither was going to give in. On three we jumped, he landed perfect and me getting crooked at the last bit, taking most of the hit on my rt arse cheek. We had two boats waiting to pick us up/help us just in case chit went sideways, but we were fine, save for my arse cheek. After many celebratory brews the pain subsided but only until the next a.m. (Cue Darwin's theory)
In an interesting turn of events later in his career he became the squadron Safety Officer at an un-named AF base in the CONUS.
