So just to clarify you are putting the wood chunks in there or chips? I have a bunch of wood chunks so that would work out.

You can burn just about anything in the hopper of the gravity smokers. I would use wood chunks, chips would fall out IMO. You can run charcoal briquets or lump. I have run a split (your store-bought firewood-sized chunk). It's like a pellet grill for those types of fuels, easy to run and set temps.
