quote:Didn't get that impression at all. Thought the trailer showed this is the story of what gets her to that point. As someone mentioned before, I really enjoyed the movie as a kid, but don't really have anything to lose if it sucks. Could be a good story, and ES apparently looks great in crazy
Why? Why even try to make her a sympathetic character? Is it because your ultra feminist group think can't STAND to have a woman as a villain so you need to go back and retcon her?

Exploring her past is one thing. Completely changing the character is another matter entirely.

Meh, I watched the trailer, and I watched this guy's breakdown of it. I didn't get that out of the trailer. All they are doing is giving a villain a backstory. I don't really have a problem with that imo.
Now 101 Dalmatians was never one of my favorite movies, so I don't really have a dog in the fight, and I likely won't go out of the way to see the movie.
But personally, I like the idea of giving villains a backstory. This movie doesn't change the Cruella character. But rather adds depth that you didn't know was already there. The movie will probably show her descent into madness, where she becomes pure evil.
Whether or not the character is sympathetic is up to your own interpretation imo. For alot of these mass school shooters, they're usually kids who were bullied and had low self esteem issues, and they lashed out by becoming a psychotic murderer.
Knowing the background of the killers, some would say they become sympathetic. But just because an evil person may have had a somewhat sad background in life doesn't mean they are sympathetic. They're still a giant POS. They're just a POS that we know a little more about.

Are they completely changing the character? It doesn't appear to be that way.

The OP really takes his Cruella DeVille news seriously.

This is 99% of what gets produced today in movies, tv and gaming and it's depressing.
