So I notice that I have cold air whipping in from the bathroom vent in a couple of my bathrooms. I need to get backdraft preventers installed, but not sure who to even call to do this. Is this a job for an electrician, plumber, roofer, HVAC guy, or who??

Also, I one of my bathroom vents is not working anymore, so I'm guessing it will need to be replaced. Would the same person as above do that or a different specialty? Any advise on what type of professional to call on this would be appreciated.

I have one of those auto humidity sensing braun models and I swear none of them have cut off in the two years I have owned it.

It shouldn't be too hard to do yourself, if that is an option. Razorblade to cut the pipe, snips if metal, install the baclflow preventer and tape it up good with duct tape (and a clamp if your want to double secure.

Bathroom vent will be an electrician.

A general handyman company could do all of it.

I bought one on Amazon and installed myself. Easy to do. I noticed I had mildew around the vents in the exhaust fan from hot air coming in and mixing with the cold air during the summer.

Part was under $15 and no issues putting in. Just need to know size of exhaust hose.

Edit to add: you can also check where your exhaust fan enclosure connects to hose to be sure your backdraft flap isn’t stuck or jammed open. Just disconnected the hose and you’ll see it right there. You might just need to spray some lubricant on the flap.
Mine had a spring that had broken. Rather than search for the spring, I just ordered the in-line backdraft stopper and installed it. I took the old one out completely so it didn’t cause any problems. It was plastic and just clicked in. New one is metal flap with rubber seal so it will work much better.

The vent should already have a flap that only opens when the fan is running. Make sure it isn't stuck open.

I've installed the vents myself, but use an electrician when I am not feeling like doing it.
