I agree. His athleticism was what made him good, and he lost that when he got hurt their Super Bowl year. I know coaches have short lifespans in the NFL—at least per tenure, until they are inevitably hired again elsewhere—but Carson Wentz isn’t saving Nagy’s job. Takimg that #20 pick to get a rookie QB on a rookie contract seems like a much better use of that asset. Even if the guy they like probably won’t be there at 20, there are likely some good QBs in the draft to be had in the early teens they could probably find a trading partner to move up for. That would be a better organizational move than giving the pick up and taking on Wentz and his contract.

I was about to say the Bears think they have a window open that doesn’t really exist at, but as I type this, I’m thinking about Tampa Bay’s quick ascent to the Super Bowl and the other teams in the NFC and there’s not a whole lot that separates any of them. Look at how much the Rams gave up to take their shot with whatever window they still have open. I mean, L.A., Seattle, San Francisco, hell, Arizona, Green Bay, Minnesota, Washington, and maybe even Dallas and New York have probably all convinced themselves they are a player or 2 and a lucky break here or there from going on Tampa-like run to the 2022 Super Bowl. Carolina may be delusional too if they really offered #8 for Stafford.

So frick it, Chicago may as well throw their hat in the ring if they think Wentz makes them better next season. You can say the NFC is pretty “meh,” or that it’s got a bunch of good teams that haven’t separated themselves with really good/great young QBs like the Chiefs, Bills, and Ravens seem to have in the AFC, so everyone’s a contender. Or has convinced themselves they could be.
