A.What guitar forums do you use?

B. Any of you use Acousticguitarforum.com? This is the shittiest, prickliest website I have ever been on. Anybody who has ever bitched about a moderator on this site, have a go over there. I've been banned twice. My offenses...
1. The word "damn" and "crap" later used "d$&n" and "c#@p". I was brand new at that time and did not know how militant they were about the language policy. Oh well. Chalked that up.

2. Looking to buy a new guitar from a friend. I have played the guitar a couple times but only during get togethers. Therefore, beer is always on tap. My point was that I wanted to play the guitar beer free. Wondering aloud if "'beer goggles' can apply to guitars as they do women." Prior to this I had made a comment about a poster who described the new guitar he had gotten with no picture. I chimed in with a smiley faced "Pics or it didn't happen. Like a beautiful ex or girlfriend." This comment raised no stink but was used as a "pattern" leading up to my beer goggles comment. I did not elaborate further, no lurid comments about sex with fat chicks or wanting pics of hot chicks a guy may have banged? I was accused of Misogyny!!! I asked if they knew how strong and slanderous the use of that word is toward someone. Banned!

So do any of you use a website that you can say "poop" or "damn" on? Not that I want to say "poo-poo" but good lord.

In addition I would like to say here on this site to anyone looking for a place, frick Acousticguitarforum.com which is sad to say as I have had positive experiences on there. From a build or repair side they have many luthiers on the site that will chime in on your questions with real answers. From builders, some of which have 100+ guitars under their belt. But I can not suggest this site to ANYONE. As it is utterly unwelcoming, and (large issue) unless you are a paid member, the mods are there to hassle you.

My 2 cents on part of your post: Don't buy or trade guitars when you're drinkin. Play it and look it over good when you are sober.

I don’t use any forums, but there are some channels that I watch and trust for a fair opinion. Guitarists are fickle.

Don’t trade when drinking. Borrow it and play it with your own most-often used rig (or one very similar) before you make a choice.

Lol. I know. I am mainly bitching about the site. This guitar belongs to a good friend. It’s going to take me 2 minutes of strumming and 5 minutes of looking it over to know if I want it.

Beer will be sipped AFTER the decision is made.

Guitar Center filed for reorganizational bankruptcy, big difference. The only deals you get with GC or with any significant retailer are on used gear that deviates from marquis brand names that are easily blue-booked and researched ... products in which you know the product better than the store that priced it or that is selling it.

Most of the gear I bought, traded or sold on impulse and/or lost money and/or interest in was during my hard drinking days. I quit drinking five and a half years ago and impulse buying went with it. What a concept.

The only guitar forum I still frequent is the Hamer Fan Club. I've been an active member there since the late 1990s and I still find education, enlightenment and entertainment there. Even if you don't own, play or even know Hamer Guitars, there is something cool there for pretty much everyone.

Most of the guitar forums are filled with self-professed know-it-alls, collectors who treat musical instruments like animals in African safaris, and my biggest pet peeve ... professional regurgitator lemmings who are better at being parrots versus forming their own opinions. The guys who bash non-USA guitars, who bash Norlin, CBS and Baldwin ownership eras, the guys who roll their eyes at modelers, all simply because they read it so it must be true and worth repeating at every opportunity. What a pitiful existence.
