He called him on the phone and asked him "Grandpa, Do you put out bird seed?" "How deep do you plant it?"
He's 9 and grandpa is a little hard of hearing. The kid saw the joke on America's funniest home videos (it was a prank call....)

This makes more sense than what you said in the OP, and was probably funny when grandpa didn't get it...I know I would have had my pawpaw going with that one
