We always hear how LSU is more strict on drug testing (or more frequent), does anyone have the details on this? Are we different from Florida and Alabama, and if so, how different? And what about schools like Ohio State or non-SEC schools, is that different too or is it NCAA driven?

Thanks for info.

Verge went into detail on OTB a few months back. They are on YouTube. I don’t know the date.

Our policy itself is in line with all other SEC schools. Now whether the kther schools chose to randomly drug test as much is what is in question

We almost never truly randomly test.

Kids are just idiots. You have to be an idiot to fail a drug test for marijuana these days. They’ll let them know a few weeks in advance when they’re being tested. They’re not even looking for marijuana in their system, it’s really PEDs or hard drugs

SEC schools drug testing policies are different and each school implements it - some more stringently than others

The NCAA also does random testing, I have no idea how frequently or if in season only or can they show up during offseason - from what I gather they can test for PEDs and recreational drugs.

NCAA does not do random testing. They test once per year, before the postseason, and they only test teams that make the postseason. If you fail an NCAA drug test, you are an absolute moron. Everyone knows exactly when, how, whom, and for what they test.

If they are testing for THC, they are looking for marijuana.

All of this is very wrong. The NCAA absolutely comes on campus at times and conducts random drug tests

False. Unless they dramatically changed operations in the last 2 years.

Their standards are so punitive (1 year consecutive for PEDs, 6 months consecutive for recreational drugs), that if they truly randomly tested, and players smoked weed to the extent they actually do, virtually no football athlete would be eligible.

Been the same way for 25 plus years. They have always conducted random on campus testing

Who is responsible for testing student-athletes?
The NCAA and its member schools share the responsibility of not only testing, but also educating student-athletes to prevent drug usage. The NCAA conducts testing at its championships, and year-round on campus in Division I and II programs. In addition, the majority of institutions conduct their own institutional testing programs independent of NCAA drug testing. The NCAA spends more than $6 million annually on drug testing and education in an effort to deter the use of banned and harmful substances.

Year-round drug-testing frequently asked questions
How should an institution prepare its student-athletes for NCAA drug testing?
Institutions should educate student-athletes about NCAA banned drugs and drug testing policies, and follow the NCAA published minimum guidelines for drug education, found in the NCAA Drug Testing Program Book at www.ncaa.org/drugtesting.

How and when are institutions notified of drug testing?
Drug Free Sport International will notify the director of athletes, compliance administrator and drug-testing site coordinator via email of their selection for drug testing not earlier than two days before the day of testing. In most cases, institutions will be notified one day before the test day. Some test events will include no-notice testing.

Oh, and I was lucky enough to be part of a random NCAA test on campus roughly 14 years ago

This is my personal experience.

Can you actually cite to an instance of "random" testing by this program?

News flash: it wasn't random. Your coaches just told you that it was.

Well, they don't do year-round random testing, so obviously.
