on the DC statehood issue, the non-federal land areas just need to go back to Maryland like the area south a the Potomac went back to Virginia.

net effect would be Maryland would get 1 more house rep and NY or Cali would lose one house rep

Yea that is not true, and nothing about my post has to do with the Civil War. Subsequent acts of Congress absolutely can change prior acts of Congress.

You are pushing a lengthy Supreme Court argument with that response. The Annexation declared that Texas was within it's right to divide .... Either way, the approval of Congress would be the governing body. Texas claims the right to divide.

More than likely fluff ....like California bitching to divide or secede.

The example of Indian Reservations is poor at best. Every tribe received a reservation as promised by the Federal Government. Substantially smaller , but a reservation non the less. To top that off, each tribe receives Federal protections not offered to any other group. They do not have to collect state taxes and have luxuries others do not have at their disposal. No greater example than that of Florida vs. Federal Government in the grant awarding them Casino privileges. Lying Governor Lawton Chiles decided to take on the Federal Government against casinos in the state.... Florida lost and Lyin' Lawton got the boot at the ballot box.

I’m more liberal than a lot on here and I agree with this completely. I agree those folks need representation but the answer is not to create a new state out of whole cloth.
