Flip a coin. If you’re disappointed on the caliber it chooses, buy a 7-08.

7-08, 270, 308......it really doesn't make any significant difference as long as the proper bullet is used. When I bought my first big game rifle, I bought a Winchester Model 70 in 270 Winchester. I'd grown up reading all the writings of Jack O'Conner, the biggest proponent of the 270 at the time. When my son started deer hunting, I bought him a 308. A few years ago, I came across a really good buy on the T/C Compass. I bought one for grand kids to use some day. And the caliber was...........7-08 Remington

Lol....I have 308 & 7-08. Can’t find 7-08 bullets. I prefer the 308, though. 270 is a good choice also.
