It's almost like the writers were planning to have them end up together when they wrote that, then later decided to go with a "less than storybook happy ending".

I would have been more able to believe the outcome if not for the line I quoted above. That may have been one of the last scenes she's in before the last episode.

The twist needed more explanation in my opinion.

Words can be water though. It's easy to say that you're going to accept something like that, then don't. People make promises like that all of the time IRL and it doesn't pan out.

I just thought at that point they had too much "history" for it to really work out that well.

The ending with Winona just seems like the perfect example of “No matter how fine they are . . . someone is tired of putting up with their shite.”

I am OK with the Winona ending. I think that’s part of why the series ending was so good is that it did not give the fans the ending they wanted to all the storylines . . . life is not that neat and tidy.
