This may be their intention but the costs of electric vehicles and ESPECIALLY replacement batteries will be a sticking point.
And we aren’t even going into charge times. 300mi on one charge isn’t feasible when you have to go twice that in one night.
Don't forget the extra strain on our electrical grid, if a majority of vehicles become electric. There would have to be a MASSIVE ramp up of modernizing and new transmission capabilities, as well as countless dozens of new plants and power generation infrastructure.
There have been many studies on this subject, and they basically all come to the conclusion that our current grid couldn't come close to handling it. When wind turbines take up too much space without cutting it and coal isn't an option in the new climate-friendly lala land, the only other resort is the "big bad wolf" known as nuclear power.
That's not even mentioning the lack of charging stations along the interstate and highway system nationwide. They may be common in the Liberal strongholds, but go somewhere like Arkansas and find one. Good luck.
We're about to be caught between a rock and a hard place, and it's totally our own politicians' fault.
