Like I was saying, 95 times out of 100 a HC/GM never blocks a guy from moving on, especially if they're getting a promotion and a nice pay raise.

This is true and now that the smoke has cleared, it seems more likely that everyone assumed a release or buyout wouldn’t be an issue because it never is. This makes more sense than Nielsen’s agent and his staff being grossly incompetent and just not knowing his contract.

Payton is being petty. But Coach O should have reached out to him a couple of weeks ago to let him know he was interested in one of his guys.

Payton and the Saints FO appeared a lot more petty on Monday than yesterday. Monday night we didn’t know they were losing another defensive coach to the Lions and that Allen would be interviewed for a HC job. All of that news came out yesterday and both moves add a lot of context to the Nielsen situation. The Saints had their reasons for blocking an easy path to LSU, even if I don’t care for them as someone who doesn’t give a shite about that team. What they did at least makes sense in hindsight.

I think this O and Payton business is overblown. As long as our athletic department reached out to the Saint FO, the rest is just window dressing and posturing after the fact. If that didn’t happen, then it’s a legit breach of protocol and a problem, but no one has disputed the media reports that it did.
