In your infinite wisdom, please explain why Woodward looks "not great" in this. Go into detail as to what he has done to "not look good". I await your detailed report

He is 0 ability to close deals on any relatively sought after assistant coach. Just fricking make it happen. It's not an excuse to say "Oh well the Saints forced his hand" or "Oh Freeman wanted to be closer to his family" bullshite. He needs to stop taking it up the arse and make something happen.

He signed off on offering and agreed to an insanely stupid contract for Bo Pelini. And that is not hindsight being 20/20. It was stupid the day it was offered. One disastrous season later LSU had to eat the remaining two years of that contract that should have NEVER been offered in the first place.

With that as the jumping off point, one has to believe the AD is (or at least should be) heavily involved in hiring what may turn out to be the second highest paid person at the school (even more than the men's basketball coach). I can't imagine they are willing to, for a second straight year, grossly overpay for a DC who doesn't have a tremendous market for his services. Especially considering the goodwill earned from 2019 has all but evaporated and the department as a whole is dealing with the single greatest loss of revenue maybe in the history of the department.

I cannot imagine Orgeron has simply been given a blank check and told to "hire whoever you want". But we are now over a month past the firing of Pelini (a decision that Woodward no doubt knew was going to be made WELL before it actually became official) and LSU still hasn't hired a DC. The waited for Freeman's season to end...thought they had him...then didn't. Ok. That happens. So then they wait another two weeks for the Saints season to end, only to miss out on the second guy. If O is fully leading the search, then you would at least think the AD would want to know what the plan is on making the hire considering the hire will be one of the highest paid coaches at the school. If not, then there seems to be no real consensus among the department as a whole as to which direction they want to go.

It HAD to be known for a while that Pelini was going to be let go. But the further along we get it becomes apparent there wasn't a well thought out plan of attack outside of settling on a few targets and waiting until they were available to try to get them without some degree of assurance they would. For a job that from the outside looking in seems like it would be in high demand it seems no one wants it.

Every time there is a coaching search, this board says "go after the best an make them say 'No'".

Then when someone says "no" its full blown panic mode.

This is the process. This is what it looks like.
