Don't listen to the 76 haters. I held off getting it the first year. I started last spring and haven't stopped playing since. Its really came around, and the building is fantastic especially with the addition of Vault shelters. They are adding more and more stuff. If you like fallout 4 there is nothing more close than 76. Get it.
I don't get the love for 76. It's intentionally tedious to get you to spend money on microtransactions. Technically, you don't have to buy any, but the game will not be fun to play.
Fallout 4 GOTY edition is a one time cost and you get free mods.

I just got back into Fo76 and am throughly enjoying it after playing for the first 6 months after launch.
Although I will say that I can see it getting stale since I've caught back up on quests - but the quest design is really damn good in the game. Just got the brewing stand done, I thought it was a great quest line.
For all its flaws, launching a nuke and the Scorchbeast Queen event is awesome, one of my favorite MMO encounters ever. I just wish they had more things like it - Earle is OK but nobody wants to run it with the ammo you consume.
The CAMP building is fun despite all the quirks and restrictions. If you're into it, it helps replayability a ton. If you aren't though I can see it being a hassle. Also the Seasons they introduced are great to at least give a reason to log in everyday.
Overall 76 is definitely worth checking, especially if you have Xbox Gamepass since I think it is free?
ETA: if anybody is on Xbox and wants to play my gamer tag is OSU SprintFun
