The two guys that just joined the team will not play this season according to an article in The Advocate a couple of weeks ago.

Wade also confirmed that 7-foot center Bryan Penn-Johnson, a transfer who went home to California over the Christmas holidays to mull his future, will not return.
To fill the two vacated roster spots, Wade confirmed to The Advocate that fall signee Alex Fudge, who reclassified to the 2020 class, and San Jose State transfer Seneca Knight will join the team Monday.

Both Fudge and Knight will sit out as redshirts during the spring semester.

Practice. Can’t play. Will be awesome to get Fudge acclimated to the speed of the college game. He’s going to be a good one.

Fudge could play since he is a first time enrollee. Wade is just choosing not to play him b/c of readiness both mentally and physically (needs to put on weight/size).
Plus he isn’t really needed for this year. Will give him a big advantage though going into next season and helps provide quality reps to practices to make those playing sharper.

I was wondering about this. I've seen his height listed anywhere from 6'8" with a long wingspan to 6'5" and rather thin. If it is the former, I was wondering why we didn't just play him now given I doubt anyone with any sort of talent will stay 5 years.

I can’t wait to see Fudge pack the paint

Judging by seeing him next to others, Fudge looked to be at least 6'6" maybe 6'7".
He also looks like he's 13. Lol

I think the bigger reason to play now is more just the fact that he wouldn’t lose the eligibility year anyway since this is a free year.
However, Wade’s not going to throw him in just for the hell of it. The kid is talented, no doubt, and will be great here; but there are other players ahead of him that bring similar skill set and have been busting their butt for months and know the offensive/defensive systems.
By the time Fudge gets up to speed, the season will be close to being over anyway; so not much purpose or opportunity there anyway.

Great points. It's nice to know he can at least be insurance if there is an injury or COVID outbreak.
