Alabama is clearly superior to any team in the FBS. No one this year could stop the three-headed monster of Smith, Harris and Jones. Because of their success, they get the pick of the litter every year in recruiting. Many of their players are 5 star and most of the rest of them are 4 star. They do a good job of analyzing talent. Mac Jones was a 3 star recruit.
LSU was on their way after last year's NC, however we are not yet establisted to the point that we can survive the kind of turnover in players and coaches that we had.
My point is that while LSU had a difficult year this year, the influx in talent is high. However, we had to play so many very young players who will get better over time, I think the future is bright. We still competed this year, but just made too many costly mistakes.
I do think we might have developed sooner if Johnson had been an earlier starter. He just seems to have more of the "it" factor than Finley. Finley has talent, but needs more pocket presence, agility, and long pass accuracy.
Again, Alabama stomped most everyone they played and LSU was no worse than most. Heck, Bama barely beat Florida, and LSU did as well.
We are not doomed! The high percentage of O line players returning will make a big difference in 2021. Yes we need a better DC. If we get one, look out!!
