#1. USC

#2. Ohio State

#3. Georgia

#4. LSU

quote:

The nation's number three defense in each of the last three years might fall off a little bit with the loss of defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, DT Glenn Dorsey, LB Ali Highsmith, SS Craig Steltz and both starting corners, but it's not like things are going to fall off the map. The defensive line might even be better, even without Dorsey, with tackles Ricky Jean-Francois (academics) and Charles Alexander (knee) joining Al Woods and Marlon Favorite on the inside to form a brick wall, and tackle-sized Tyson Jackson on the end looking for a big season to cash in on for next year's NFL draft. Speed and athleticism should make up for concerns at outside linebacker and cornerback, while MLB Darry Beckwith and the safeties should be tremendous.

#5. Auburn

#27 Florida

Is Auburn truely the #5 defense in the nation...?

and if it is, Auburn once again has the advantage as the game will be in Auburn, AL...(my opinion)

Both teams have untested, inexperienced QBs...

Both teams have new Defensive Coordinators...

Auburn has a new Offensive Coordinator...

Although, Auburn has a new OC, the game is in Auburn...because everything else is even...playing in Auburn trumps their new OC...

Advantage to Auburn because their QB, although inexperienced, saw more playing time last year than Hatch.

Quarterbacks

Projected Starter: While he's not going to throw for 4,000 yards and he's built more like a tailback than a quarterback, 6-1, 205-pound Kodi Burns is a fantastic spread offense prospect who should do wonders in the new attack. The sophomore saw a little bit of time throughout last season completing just ten of 26 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, but he ran for 203 yards and three scores in his limited time and was the star of the Chick-fil-A Bowl win over Clemson with 69 yards and the game-winning touchdown in overtime to go along with a 22-yard touchdown pass, his only completion in four attempts. He'll need some seasoning

We all know this is probably the game that will decide the SEC West!

What's your opinion...who has the advantage or is it even?

Who knows? We might actually have to watch a game or 2 to find out.

Playing at Auburn is an advantage for them. Having better players is an advantage for us. I think we'll win, but I also did in '06 and '04. I'm sure it will be on helluva game regardless.

USC's defense is a tad over-rated every year

USC & OSU are seriously overrated as usual.

LSU has the # 1 line in America and we'll prove it again in 2008.

Georgia being in the Top 5 was a surprise.

We're better than Auburn, but they are at home and have the refs in their pocket. I still think we take them this year.

No. See the refs in 04's and 06's.

Certainly CFN is not right on all their estimates...but, in my experience in reading them, they are very good overall.

Your comments are welcome...

Please include with that, who has the advantage in your opinion.

UGA as the #3 Defense is a stretch considering their apparent lack of healthy DE's.

AJC

(DE Coach John)Fabris said he’s trying to keep at least two different rotations healthy enough to play a game, but the players haven’t made it easy on him. Fabris said he doesn’t have one player who’s even 90 percent healthy, let alone full speed.

Of course anyone ahead of LSU is over-rated. FWIW, I believe USC had better stats in most areas last year on D and that was playing in an offense driven league.

Auburn's generally got a very solid, usually underrated defense.

I think any unbiased observer would (should) admit that USC had a very strong defense last year. There's too much talent there not to. Our defense certainly struggled at times last year after starting off killing QBs and making offensive coordinators weep. That said, I'd like to see the comparative turnover differential numbers; I think that was really our strong suit last year.

Auburn #5

I don't understand why this a laugher. Auburn's defense is always pretty awesome.
