I usually buy shimano 2500’s but apparently there’s a shimano famine. What’s some other quality brands in that size? $75-$125 budget?

I’m an avid fisherman but only throw bait casters and haven’t thrown a spin cast much since I was a kid. I have a few for ultralight applications around the neighborhood ponds for perch or sacs but only throw them a few times a year. My question is, based on ignorance I guess, why do you need a high end spin cast? They all cast the exact same way and don’t rely on bearings other than retrieving. The all feel the same to me.

Not being anything other than honest. Don’t have anything against them. Just prefer throwing bait casters. I fish inshore here in Texas and only throw artificials. I am legitimately curious what advantages high end spin cast reels have over mid grade reels in the 50-75.00 range. If it’s drag or durability then that’s what I’m asking.

Throwing a Popping Cork with a BC seems odd to me.

Better, smoother drag. Lighter weight. And yes, longer term durability.

This spin cast is revolutionary
LINK
SPINNING REELS are great for people new to fishing and allows them to cast with bait and cork. My cork rod has a baitcaster on the smart end and gets used sparingly unless my peeps have no game.

A spin cast reel is a zebco 33. A push button, closed face reel.....not a spinning reel. Does anyone make a high end spin cast reel anymore?

Spinning reels hold more line, generally speaking, than casting reels, in similar weight reels. A casting reel with a level wind mechanism would be SMOKED by any fish capable of spooling a spinning reel....the only revolving spool reels (casting reels) capable of handling long hard running fish are those without a level winding mechanism and few of those are as easy to throw artificials all day comfortably like a spinning reel allows because of their size and the fact that the spool has to revolve during a cast where it simply falls off a spinning reel.
The drag is also more consistent on a spinning reel.....revolving spool reel drags tighten up as line leaves the spool because there is less angle of attack as the spool diameter gets smaller and smaller......this happens on spinning reels also but to a lesser degree.
Revolving spool reels are far superior to spinning reels for really big long running fish though because the line slipping past the bail on a spinning reel during a blistering run adds a lot of tension that is not present in say a revolving spool trolling reel......but such reels are harder to cast all day.

I can’t wait for those diawa samurai 7 footers to go on sale at dicks.
Last year I got 6 for 14 bucks apiece.
My kids surf fish with tiny hooks to catch whiting. They dip them in the surf minutely.

Daiwa Fuego lt is around $100 and a fantastic reel for the price. Magsealed as well so offers more protection if fishing saltwater. Feels much nicer than the price tag would indicate too.
