The new "No Standing in Tiger Stadium" rule is ridiculous.

Not the rule itself, but the fact that the athletic dept. felt the need to make this a written rule. Mr. Alleva has no idea what kind of an ant hill he's kicking with this and the whole "shutting down campus at 7am" thing. All I can say is he's about to be officially welcomed to LSU in the next few days.

quote:

Standing During Games
POLICY:
LSU encourages fans to be courteous of other fans in
choosing to stand during games. Spontaneous reaction
to plays or significant events is expected and encouraged.
Continued standing during game action when
other fans are sitting is discouraged and will be
addressed by game marshals if complaints from other
fans are reasonable and continuous.
REASON:
Common courtesy dictates that fans should not block
the view of other fans who are seated during game
action.

I don't dislike the "rule" but I don't like where this is going. This seems like a slippery slope. This is kind of like the smoking in restaurants - I don't like that personal freedoms are being trampled on.

I agree its ridiculous. Its a football game, audience participation is part of the game, which includes standing and yelling.

So I guess we don't want our fans to get involved.

There is no way in hell they will get an entire drunken student section to do this. They can eat shite.

If you sit in the student section, you never been there before. No way does this rule happen there. If it does ... well lets just say there's no way.

What the hell? This is TS...we do not sit down! Save sitting for Neyland or Ole Piss.

This is a dead horse issue. Some feel its inappropriate to stand the whole game and block others views, and some people think that they paid their money and can stand and drink and run around naked if they choose. :beatdeadhorse:

I am on the fence. I stand up a lot but I don't stay standing. During the Bama game of 04, some people in front of us stood almost the entire 2nd half and weren't even watching the game. F' them, sit the hell down or go to a bar.

if they try and do it in the student section we will do to the marshalls what we did to the bleachers last year crowd surf them up then drop them off tiger stadium.

there is a reason we are the #1 most feared place to play. I think espn had something to do with this they can't handle us being #1 at anything.

All the rule is saying is dont be a jackass and stand with everyone else is sitting. It's common sense.

so I guess we want Tiger Stadium to be as quiet and staid as possible so that the opposing team has an easier go of things. Wouldn't want to be rude or inconsiderate.

It's a fricking football game! Not a movie. Not your kid's school play. Not a television show you watch from the safety of your couch. Tiger Stadium has a reputation for a reason. Actions like this will only diminish that.

That's exactly the fricking point. There's no need to put the rule on paper in the official fan guide. It makes us look ridiculous imo.

I agree, I certainly have been known to drink too much, yell profanity and stand up at crucial times, but I don't constatnly stand to the point of disrupting others views, I hate it when others do the same.

Student section is different, anything goes and that is how it should be.

FWIW, I saw some a-hole standing while no one else in the entire section was standing talking to a friend who was also standing. The people behind them asked them to sit because they couldn't see and the guy said some shite along of the lines of 'frick off'. That was the end of the guy standing being on his feet for not only the rest of the game, but probably for the rest of that night. Wouldn't have been the course of action I'd have used, but...

Exactly. I'm sitting down most of the game. But I'm damn sure up and yelling my arse off when we're on defense and the other team has the ball near my endzone, especially on 3rd down. I have no old people or little kids around me. Just regular folks. And hell, most of them are up too. All this rule does is give the power to one stick in the mud and one power tripping marshall to ruin a good time had by many.

LSU, like the USA, is getting more and more pussified by the day.
